May 2011

Dear friends,

As we approach the summer, I thought this might be a good opportunity to give an update on the work of God I am involved in. The school work continues and sees lives transformed each term. On one occasion recently, 12 young people made commitments to Christ.

The counselling work continues and I see lives transformed by the power of God. Over the past 6 months I have been working at a 'drop-in' in Belfast with young people referred from the Youth Justice. Most are in trouble with the law and have drug offences.

It was with great sadness that I attended a funeral last week for one of these young people. I met 'J' 18 months ago and worked with him over a period of 3 months. He gave up drugs and was clean for more than a year. A few weeks ago he called into the drop-in where he heard me give my of the social workers asked if everyone 'got it'. 'Absolutely' said J. One week later J got into some bad company and got stoned. He was so frightened by this he took his own life. He was only 17. Please pray earnestly for these lost young people.

As I sat in the church during the funeral I remembered a time when, living in the Simon Community, I sat in that same church thinking up ways I could get a drink. It is only through the grace of God that lives can be transformed. Please pray for the weeks ahead speaking to these young people.

I have been told there is to be a restructuring of contracts within the Youth Justice, with no payment until this is completed. Please pray that God allows me to continue working with these young people.

On a personal note Hilary and the children are doing well. We have recently moved into a new rented house which has literally been a God send!

I would like to thank those who have supported us both in prayer and finance. Jonathan, our youngest (4), starts school in September. He will be attending an Autistic unit attached to a mainstream school. Please pray he settles in well.

Please pray for:

  • All the young people both in schools and counselling work.
  • Continuation of the Youth Justice work.
  • God's provision over summer months.
